O'Herns Rd

Stage 2 of the O’Herns Road Upgrade has provided direct access to the Hume Freeway via newly constructed on and off-ramps. The bridge over the Hume Freeway has been widened and three traffic light intersections installed to deliver improved north-south connections between Cooper Street and O’Herns Road.

Chief's scope for these works included the Bulk Earthworks and Pavement installation for the duplication of O’Herns Road and the Hume / O’Herns Road freeway interchanges. Complex staging of works including interface with Hume Hwy and diamond interchange.

Project Management Solutions

Chief Group provided engineering and supervision along with plant and equipment to complete these works holistically and ensure all quality and lots were completed and provided to the client.

Traffic Management

Understanding the Traffic staging and sequencing of the works was paramount in constructing this project due to the live environment and the nature of the works. Chief ensured all works were carried out safely and in time for any traffic switches.

Services Interactions

The project faced significant challenges with services, particularly the existing gas transmission assets located within the works footprint. Alternate methodologies and equipment were required to ensure compliance with revised asset owner criteria to complete Chief Group’s scope of works including compacting and completing works within the proximity of the gas works.
